Rainbow Hair Carving Is the Awesome Shaved Head Art You Need to See
Getting a buzz cut ASAP.
Raindow is back in fashion. Buzz cuts are having a moment right now, but while someone like Kristen Stewart — or my super-cool roommate, who’s a part-time hair model — can make this shorn cut look ~casual~, the average woman might be afraid to try it.
Another buzzed look that requires you to be daring AF? The latest tress trend, rainbow hair carving. It’s less dangerous than it sounds: The shearing technique — pioneered by artist-turned-hair genius (and the woman responsible for my hair stencil obsession) Janine Kar — includes graphic designs shaved into one’s haircut, and then dyed using multiple colors to create a bold and totally badass style.
So how does Kar execute such a look? Like any designer worth her salt, she starts by sketching her design on paper, illustrating her next creation.
Next, she gets out the clippers to shave in the design, bleaches certain sections (or your whole head, if that’s the look you’re going for), and applies a rainbow of pastel hues to create her colorful creation — and Instagram gold.
What’s cool about this style is that rainbow-carved hair can include everything from Saved by the Bell-style triangle designs to seriously beautiful floral prints.
